Non-Surgical

Anti-wrinkle injection

(Botulinum Clostridium Toxin Type A-Derivative -BNT)

This procedure is probably one of the most commonly performed and popular procedures in cosmetic medicine. The process consists of a number of tiny injections into the targeted muscles on the face where the wrinkles appear.  Based on muscular patterns in the face, treating patients is a very individualized. Very small doses of the anti-wrinkle product need to be used to produce an effective result.

BNT acts as a neuromuscular block. Once it has been injected into the muscle it diffuses into the tissue and blocks the action of acetylcholine, which is a neural transmitter, thus preventing muscle activity.

The effects are not immediate and may take 24 – 48 hours to become visible, and then 2-3 weeks for the maximum effect to be seen. The action of the drug slowly decreases over time  as the nerve regenerates, and this can be anything from 12 -24 weeks. Longevity often depends on length of usage, especially in the glabellar frown lines.

The most popular and effective area for treatment are the frown lines and often a practitioner will encourage a new client to begin with this area to enable them to "acclimatize" to the response.

Generally we allow our patients to indicate the areas that are of concern and treat as such, emphasizing the fact that any lines that are obvious when the face is at rest  (static) will probably not be "erased" in their first treatment, but will gradually relax with consecutive sessions.

Side effects are possible but are uncommon.
These include:-

  • Headaches –generally helped with minimal painkillers
  • Bruising – may last 2-5 days (can be disguised with make-up)
  • Eyelid ptosis – may last for up to 3 months but very uncommon
  • Brow ptosis – as above
  • Ectropian – as above

Any obvious side effects or complications can generally be avoided if treatment is administered with the minimal number of units necessary to give the patient the required effect, but there can occasionally be an unforeseen event which will have been covered in your consultation.

A treatment with BTN-A is meant to give the individual a fresher more relaxed look without making them look obviously "frozen" or unusual. It is a relatively pain free procedure and is very quick to administer and patients can generally leave with no evidence of their treatment.

Non-permanent dermal fillers

Treatments for ageing aren't just about holding back the years, but also about looking and feeling positively radiant. Injectable non-permanent dermal fillers are known for their ability to plump and add volume to the skin, smooth out wrinkles and deep lines, shape facial contours and create fuller natural-looking lips. Dermal fillers stimulate the natural production of collagen, making the skin look younger and more revitalised whilst maintaining full facial expression.

A crystal clear gel made from a natural substance called hyaluronic acid (HA) is injected into the skin, treating the area of concern. Skin naturally produces HA, which is responsible for maintaining hydration in our skin.  As we age, the natural HA in our skin depletes and becomes less efficient.  As a result, our skin loses its natural elasticity, volume and buoyancy.

Treatment with a dermal filler can be a lunchtime procedure, providing instant results and lasting benefits through its superior lifting capacity to the skin. It creates a deep hydration reservoir in the tissue under the skin, which means that water bound to HA is available to keep the natural hydration balance. This hydration keeps the tissue beneath the skin fresh, firm and healthy – vital for that radiant glow!

Dermal fillers differ significantly which is why we at Cosmedical only use the highest quality products with strong safety profiles that have been extensively used and tested.

The results of a dermal filler may last up to one year or more, depending on the area being treated, the depth of the lines, the condition of the skin and the lifestyle of the individual.

Microdermabrasion

The Dermasweep ® MD system is a non-invasive exfoliation and skin-resurfacing system.

We can treat a wide variety of skin types and conditions with non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatments but can also provide more invasive medical dermabrasion treatments.

The specially designed bristle tips allow for air flow while gently lifting the topmost keratotic layer of skin in a precise and controlled manner, with a vacuum system which then removes the dead skin resulting in more effective exfoliation without irritation.

This microdermabrasion treatment helps in the stimulation of blood flow, cleans pores and removes skin debris. Increased blood flow to the skins surface encourages collagen formation thus firming and toning the skin.

An infusion treatment is performed in combination to further address each patients unique skin condition. These treatments include:-

  • Rehydration
  • Acne
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Exfoliation
  • Soothing

Microdermabrasion treatments are often combined with facial surgery and laser treatments to give a patient a completely inclusive treatment. The final result of facial surgery will appear more effective if the superficial skin has also been treated.

Dermal needling

This is a relatively non- invasive method of collagen induction using a small roller impregnated with tiny sharp needles which when rolled over the skin in a certain manner, puncture the skin and encourage the proliferation of fibroblasts which trigger a cascade of regenerative mechanisms.

The procedure commences with the patient applying topical local anaesthetic for approximately 30-45 minutes after which the skin is cleansed with antiseptic and the roller applied to the skin. Discomfort is generally mild and occasionally moderate in some areas.

Indications for this skin needling include:-

  • Wrinkles
  • Aged skin
  • Stretch Marks
  • Scars and acne scars
  • Pigmentation
  • Enlarged pores
  • Over production of sebum (oily skins)

Results include:-

  • Stimulation of skin cells and formation of new collagen- resulting in smoother, and finer skin texture
  • Improvement in the depth of previously depressed scars
  • Reduction of pore size and sebum over-production
  • Improvement in pigmentation
